it’s snowing

I woke up this morning to find my car covered in “soap opera snow.” Living in Rochester I’ve gotten well aquainted with many of the various forms of snow out there. Soap opera snow is a light, fluffy, “cute” snow. It’s like the pastic/soap flakes they use on most soap operas or tv shows. It doesn’t pack and it brushes right off of your car (which is always a plus when you don’t want to spend much time shoveling out for work). Unfortunately it has been followed by freezing rain, which means everything will have a nice layer of ice over it by the end of the day. A car cover with what seems like a hard candy shell just isn’t fun when you’re trying to open the door or see out the windsheild.

I also don’t understand Rochesterians and snow. Why, once a flake falls, does everyone forget how to drive in this area? They’ve lived with snow all thier lives! It isn’t new or unexpected. But once that first bit of snow hits the ground natives seem to loose all control of their cars. Why not just slow down and take it easy??!! Ohhh no, it’s either “Yee Haa, let’s kick in the 4 wheel drive and speed up” or “my car has shifted into snow mode and the gas and break have switched places….” Sigh.

Oh, I’ve added a new site feature in the left column. From time to time I’ll post an MP3 de jour. I can’t always promise they’ll be good, but they will definitely all be 100% fun! So check it out! More goodness will be coming soon!

wasn’t there some guy who occasionally updated this blog?

Well, the new site is mostly up. I’m still trying to figure out how to get PHP running here so I can use the user feedback Heather sent me. I also didn’t realize that when I formatted my computer late last year I didn’t reinstall Dreamweaver or Homesite. So editing the layout the page has been a pain (especially because I want to revamp it to take advantage of the extra disk space I now have). I haven’t really touched HTML is about a year so trying to make small changes to the layout has been a constant frustration. But that’s what this weekend can be for I guess.

Otherwise life has been pretty good. The apartment is cleaner than usual. The last two rehearsals for the Ives production went really well. I’ve got one heck of a skinned knuckle from working a punching bag, which is good believe it or not. I’ve also managed to get up early the last couple of days to practice some kung fu before work. If I can manage to keep that up it will be a major coup for me!

Mardi Gras party is next weekend and things are starting to pull together for that as well. My sorta new look is in place (more on that in a future blog). And I’ve been hanging out on the top of Kodak Tower. Again, more on that in the near future. That’s it for now… I have to order some beads for the party!

unexpected update

(January 24th, 2002)

I had expected by today to be at the new URL. Unfortuntately due to poor form logic and UI I missed the button for “free hosting” so I have to call their sales office tomorrow and square things with them.

I do have my new glasses and my new ‘do. Suprisingly, or not so, I don’t look all that different. I know a lot of people who are going to be disapointed. The hairdresser, heavily recommended by Jenny, thought that I looked good with longer hair and worked to clean up what I had rather than take a lot off. She even kept it longer than I had planned. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an improvement. Just not what I expected or what most people did for that matter. Some days I just feel boring.

hiatus

Blog’s going to be down for up to a couple days. But like a Pheonix I’m planning to rise from the ashes at a new URL. Yup, bookmark Waking-Dream.com. Which is all good as I’ll be able to do all the stuff there that I couldn’t do at this Road Runner due to a number of restrictions. See you soon…

matt in the morning

We were up at 6.00am this morning. Four hours of sleep at best. Bleary eyed we headed out to RIT and a morning of renegade radio. Glenn, my brother, was the GM of WITR and was looking to re-live some memories. So he and I tag teamed the 7-00am to 9.00am shift. This was my first time doing a music shift. I have been on national radio a number of times talking about Digital Cameras, but like everyone, I’ve always wanted to do a leetle DJin’. I have a lot more respect for folks who can do a smooth mike break now…

Glenn has been up in Rah-cha-cha since Saturday. We’ve had a lot of fun so far. Mainly eating our way through town as Glenn demanded to get his fill of local food before he headed back. He’s heading back at 6.30 today :-(.

Oh, new look 2001 progress is under way. Perhaps as soon as Wednesday there might be a “new me” hanging around.

ozzy’s playin’ on MP3… I’m ready to blog

yeah, ozzy-bite-the-head-off-live-bats-moon-the-audience-self-medicating-osborne is playing right now (I’ve got pretty eclectic music tastes). My computer at work has been packed with over 30+ hours of MP3 goodness. So on days like today I just set the player on random and never know what’s going to pop up next (its “Road to Nowhere” btw).

Any hoo, for some reason the last update didn’t make it to the site (even though blogger is showing that it published the site… weird huh?). Hopefully it’ll push this time. Check down below for it.

Things are starting to come together on a bunch of projects. Scott (my downstairs housemate) and I are in full Mardi Gras swing. I’m not sure where we’re going to fit all these people. Things with the Exact Theatre Company are starting to pick up. I’ve all but nailed down the first of two performance spaces and will be landing (Guns and Roses November Rain… hmm Mister WinAmp is in the big hair stadium hard rock mood today) the other next week. Even though we still have to steal space from RIT, rehearsals are going well. Thankfully steps are being taken to legitimize our relationship with them.

Martial Arts… well, I had a frustrating night yesterday. I was zoning for most of the evening. And I seem to have 42 little, compounding problems with everything I do. So needless to say I’m feeling like a klutz right now. A klutz that can bang out a lot of pushups, but a klutz none the less. The good news is that I’ve scheduled a lot more time at home for practicing. That should help a lot. And I’ve gone through these periods before.

My brother Glenn is flying up from Raleigh NC to visit me on Saturday. I’m pretty psyched about that. But I just wish I had more down time (something I haven’t had since Christmas). I mean I still have Christmas presents to wrap and mail. :-P Bleh! And the apartment could really use some tiding up. But that’s always the case.
